RF & Communications Engineer – UAV Platforms

Design, harden, and test the RF and communications links that keep UAV platforms connected and controllable in contested electromagnetic environments.

Design and select antennas and RF front ends for command, control, and telemetry links, balancing range, gain, and platform constraints (weight, aerodynamics, mounting) against real mission profiles, not just a spec sheet in a lab.

Own RF system enhancement across the datalink chain — power amplifiers, filtering, frequency planning, and link budget analysis — to push usable range and reliability under real-world interference, not clean-room conditions.

Build and integrate anti-jamming and ECCM measures: frequency-hopping spread spectrum, adaptive nulling, and resilient waveform design so the platform keeps flying and reporting when someone is actively trying to break the link.

Own end-to-end RX/TX testing — bench, anechoic chamber, and live field range — validating link performance, jam resistance, and failure behaviour before a platform is trusted with an operational mission.

Requirements

  • Four or more years in RF engineering, communications systems, or antenna design, ideally for airborne or defence platforms
  • Strong grounding in RF fundamentals — link budgets, antenna theory, propagation, and modulation schemes
  • Practical experience with anti-jamming, frequency-hopping, or spread-spectrum communications design
  • Comfortable with RF test equipment — spectrum analysers, vector network analysers, signal generators — and structured RX/TX validation
  • Experience with encrypted or secure datalinks for command and control
  • Able to debug intermittent, field-only RF issues that never reproduce cleanly on the bench

Nice to have

  • ECCM (Electronic Counter-Countermeasures) design experience
  • SDR (software-defined radio) platform experience (USRP, GNU Radio, or similar)
  • Prior work on military or paramilitary communications systems
  • Antenna simulation tooling (HFSS, CST, or equivalent)

Education

Bachelor's in Electronics & Communication Engineering, RF/Microwave Engineering, or related discipline; Master's preferred for anti-jam/ECCM specialisation
